not ANOTHER tranny problem!!

Hi Guys, I'm sure this is a tired subject but, here goes, anyway.
My sons 2nd 97 explorer sohc started a loud buzz/grind in a forward gear coming into town. I found it made the noise consistantly shifting into revarse.
Sounded like transfer case. I put it in 4 lo & had reverse but no reverse in 4 hi & auto. With trans in park I can turn the driveshaft in one direction & there is a loud clicking noise with car off. I don't think I should be able to turn the driveshaft at all in park, should I? Anyway, I'm pulling the transfer case today & am excited to get any input at all. It might be the shift fork.

I haven't had a transfer case apart but I suspect it might be like a manual transmission.
I do have another 180k transfer case that did seem to work, cept for not going into 4 lo.
I'll swap the electric motors & transfer cases & then pray.
