O/D light flashing and Tranny warning

My 2002 V8 EB 4x4 has started flashing the Overdrive Light and is giving me the warning to "check transmission".

New to me...what could this be, is it going to be serious?

Yes, that means the transmission has thrown a "code" and is limp home mode. You need to, they are stored in the computer. Take it somewhere and have the codes pulled. Autozones will pull them for free but not all the codes will show up with their scan tools. The dealers can of course do it or any good local transmissionshop. My advice is pull the codes and post the results here, there are LOTS of very knowledgeable/helpful folks here that have helped me in the past. (Glaicer/BB, others have helped me , I am no expert) Do it sooner rather than later because in limp home mode the line pressure are maxed out and long term it is bad idea. It also helps if you post details for truck, miles, etc.what exact transmission you have. (but I think the V8 have 4R70W?).
