Overhead console wiring questions

I got an overhead console all set up in my Ranger, however I have a few wiring quirks I'm wondering about.
First, the console only works when the dome light is shut off (existing dome light in the truck). If I open the doors, the console shuts off. If I turn on either of the map lights on the console itself, same story - the display shuts off. When I use the dimmer switch to turn on the dome light, the display goes out as well. When I turn on the headlights, the console display dims, and when I use the dimmer switch to dim the other lights in the truck, the console display gets brighter! Any ideas on what wire(s) I may have messed up?

Ouch. It sounds like you have the power wire hooked up wrong as well as the dimmer wire. Wire the dimmer into the ash tray light (if you have one) and hook the power wire up to the stereo.

Re-did all my wiring, and everything works great now; thanks for the help.
