just put them on today and there awsome.there Wild Track Radial LTR. they fit and the look perfect. this is the size tire these year explorers should have come with from the factory. no rubbing and i didn't feel any loss of power and my speedo still reads the same rpm to mph as when i had the stock 235/70/16 so i'm really happy. gives a rugged look to the explorer i think.
haven't been off roading with them yet since i live in the city i have to drive like an hour or so to find any off roading situations but soon as i do i'll post pics.

Looks good.

What size does your model have stock? Is it the 255/75R16s? I've got a 99 Sport, and thats what it's got but I need winter tires and I'm thinking about 285/75R16s, but I think they'd be too big. Also I dont want to spend a whole lot, either.

no mine stock came with 235/70/16 on it which is a 29" tire. 285/75/16 is like a 33" tire and will not fit your explorer unless you have some sort of lift.

well dude the stock on an 02-04 is 235/70 but ur 99 sport has an advantage to these.. in ur front uve got independent with torsion bars and uve got leaf springs in back... my advice if u want a 285, crank the torsion bar to max, and put blocks under the back springs... ud only spend money on the like 10 dollar blocks and ud spend maybe 50 on an alignment.. but then that tire should fit

i run 255/70s on my 02 with no prob... the fender well is about the same size from 99 to 02 so the biggest u could prolly get without rubbin would be a 265/75, if u dont feel like doing the minor lift

that is the size ford should have put on the 2002+ explorere. They look great!

Oh Ya

Ya my 2003 xlt sport came with 255/75R/15's

How tall is the 265/70/16 - and about how much did your MPG suffer?

the 265/70/16 measures 30.60" tall by 10.43" wide so it basically a 31" tire. as far as my mpg, to be honest i haven't notice a change at all so if it did change it must of only been 1 or 2 mpg tops.

if ur trying to do a tire size from a metric-sized tire (one with a 16 inch rim or above and some 15 inches) all u have to do is this equation on a calculator

ill use my size tire for example..255/70/16

take the tire width..255... multiply that by the aspect ratio as a percentage.. (.70).. then multiply by the conversion from milimeters to inches... (.03937).. now you have the size of one side of the tire from edge of rim to top of the tire.... so now multiply by 2 to get to of those and add ur rim size

(255)(.70) = 178.5

(178.5)(.03937) = 7.027545

(7.027545)(2) = 14.05509

14.05509 + 16 = 30.05509 inches

u can do this equation for any tire to get the height in inches

VERY similar to what I put on mine. I had to recalibrate the speedo

I just put 245/75/16's on my Mountaineer and the Speedo is dead on accurate at 30/60/90mph verified by GPS. 245/75/16 is the same hight as a 265/70/16. With stock tires 30=29mph acutal 60=58mph actual and 90=87mph actual verifed with GPS. My Mounty came with 245/70/16's stock.

He could crank the torsion bars to get lift, but blocks will lower the rear not lift. The springs are under the axle which would cause the vehicle to lower.

Does the reaclibration have to be done them? I am about to purchase 265's for mine so I was wondering if I should set up an appointment or not, I really do not want to pay the money to have it done, would it just be easier to go to 255"s. Either would be an upgrade from my wimpy 235's. Also, in the event I got a flat with 265's, wouldnt I need a 265 spare since my current spare is a 235? I would think this could mess up the auto 4X4, I dont think the area for a spare can fit a 265 can it?

I have a 265/75/16 for my spare. It's tight, but it fits.

i'm tellin you man don't bother wasting your money on thr recalibrating. i checked my mph to rpm's with the stockers and then with the 265's and there was no diffrence. just a waste of money to do that IMO. if my speedo's of it's by no more that 1 mph or maybe 3 mph at higher speedes at the most.

i am debating on this 265 70 16 size. i have an 02 limited V8 and would like something bigger than the stock 245 70 but i dont want it to run. is anyone running this size on 3rd gen with no suspension upgrades?
