I have a 1993 xplorer with 4 wheel ABS. The master cylinder (I presume), is taking a turn for the worse. When I sit at a stop light, train tracks, stop sign, etc.. for an extended period of time, say 2 minutes or so, the brake pedal begins to fall to the floor. It falls quite rapidly, and before I know it, I am out of pedal travel. Now when I am at a stop, I put it in neutral and pump the brakes every time they bottom out.
So that is the situation. Now, I believe that it is just the seals on the piston of the M.C. leaking slowly. So I went and got myself a new Master Cylinder. I didn't even think about it until later, all the stories I have heard about the Hydraulic Control Unit. Is it even possible for me to replace the master cylinder myself. If so, how do I keep from getting air into the lines and the HCU?
Thanks for any help.
