speed sensor

I just bought a 1996 explorer sport with a 5 speed in it. the ABS light is on, speedo and cruise aren't working . Aren't those symptoms of a speed sensor being out?

Yes it is possible, having a abs code would be helpful though. Also look at the master cylinder and see if the electronic switch on the end is unplugged. Ford had a recall on it ans a interim repair was to disconnect it and later either add a harness or replace the switch.
