^^^ same thing, my Ex does it, my F350 does it. You can hear the thud/squeak if the radio is off.
Nothing to worry about.
So what is it?
It is the abs system.
What do you think the sound is doing mechanically? As by design..
I think it pumps a piston or valve in the abs module to prime it for use at each start, like a mechanical prime + self test.
If it doesnt complete this prime then it will throw a dash light likely. (?)
Seeing as yours is a new vehicle, I would have it looked at just to be sure.I just mentioned in my other posting "Weird Squeak" that I tried to get this looked at today and my appointment wasn't real. Lol. How making an appointment online isnt a real appointment, is beyond me.
Anyway, would love to know if everyone just lets this "sound" go or actually gets it fixed somehow.
Our 2012 XLT AWD is in the shop and the service department isn't sure what is wrong or how to fix it. They don't seem to be making any progress, so I knew it was time to call upon the combined wisdom of the forum.
The issue (while minor) is worrisome in that it seems to be drivetrain or suspension related and I hope it can be repaired while in warranty.
After the Exp has been parked for 2-3 minutes, often a soft bump or thud is heard and felt through the pedal as you begin to drive.
I've read other threads about a transmission thunk or thud, but this isn't at all that severe. A passenger wouldn't notice this unless they were trying to.
It happens only in motion, and within 10 seconds of driving away. Occurs forward and reverse, on level or sloped surface, driving straight or turning.
I've determined it won't happen simply by coming to a stop- only after the Exp has been in park for a couple minutes.
The bump can be felt about 70% of the time.
At the dealer, they've described it as 'intermittent', but have experienced it. They do not feel TSBs are applicable to the issue. They have used their equipment to 'listen' for the source of the sound but can't locate the source...
I'm not a nitpicker, but this definitely isn't normal. The shop seems to be doing their best to find the problem (for two weeks!) and I haven't asked Cory to step in.
Anybody else experience this? Got any ideas where they should start?
Thanks for the help!
Is this when you shift from P to D or from R to D and vice versa and then step on the gas?

I am experiencing this every time from a cold start moving from either R to D or P to D. It is always after moving forward... around 3 seconds into the ride. This is the only time I hear the "thud". Never again throughout my ride.
The reason why I asked is because I had a very similar issue when I had my Camaro. The dealer could never figure out the problem, but otherwise the car was completely fine. It might be something with the drive train, or the torque converter as per a consolation with a mechanic. They never touched it because it never posed a risk to the vehicle or my safety. I'm not an expert but suggest those two things, along with the shifter/transmission next time.
Btw if this started during the cold weather, it may still occur when temps warm up. Either way I hope you get this problem fixed ASAP! I hope I gave you some insight with my experience!
Lol, how can I fix a problem when no one can say for sure what it is? Thanks though...
If you're referring to gr8whitebuffalo, his last post was October 9, 2012. I suspect that is one buffalo that is no longer roaming the forum. If like to know what happened to the original poster... I sent him a note but didn't hear back...
After reading many posts, Im going to say its the ABS self check. (Its still annoying me though) I read that Buick owners had the same issues and that they issued some sort of fix/recall that fixed the noise.
I wonder if Ford will do the same?
