#truck not going in reverse

Good day...

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT

One night I was driving my truck. Dropped my son to an event, and the truck reversed fine. About 10 minutes later, I tried to reverse, and it wouldn't engage. And never did ever since. My truck never showed me any sign of transmission failure, but now it no longer engages in the reverse gear.

What are some possible reasons for this?

Does this mean I need my transmission replaced? Or is there like a solenoid or something to swap out?

yes or yes, it could be anything. You will need to pay for a diagnosis to at least know which area to put money into,
