i just picked up a very very clean cheap 97 XLT 5.0 and it drives fine and idles fine in park and neutral.

when cold if you put it into reverse it will stall immediatly, when it is fully warm it will do it less but still stall out. starts right up.

but when put into gear it surges a little and drops under 500RPM especially in reverse.

im thinking either a vacumm line issue, or the ideler control valve?

anyone ever have similar issue?

any adivce is welcomed and encouraged!

thanks in advance

How many miles on it? Could be converter lockup clutch hanging up or leakage past the solenoid.

yea my mechanice mentioned that as well, im going to drop it off tomorrow or the next day...i hope it isnt that, if it is im gonna ring this guys neck.

said he had it at 2 mechanics and they both said idler control is most likely i ask my mechanic and the first thing he mentions was converter lockup.

it does have 194k on the clock
