Wiring issue

My 93 explorer sport is Having a short somewhere with the license plate lights. I replaced both bulbs. Checked the fuses. Can't trace the short. If you have any ideas I would be grateful

I had a short in the license plate light socket itself, the insulation had degraded and it was hitting the body. You might look at that first before going down the wires.

Does the fuse blow or just no lights? A 'short' would - by definition - blow the fuse. If you have no power to the light socket, work your way back through the wiring. The socket could be corroded, the wire could be broken, etc.
