wont shift from 1st to 2nd

OK here's an update on all that has gone on. The intermediate servo piston was bad, but after replacing it plus the OD servo I still don't have 2nd gear. So we thought that we might have adjusted the band wrong. We backed off the lock nut and started turning the screw in by hand, at about 1 1/2 turns in heard a "click" then stoped. The mech. across the street said to see if it will go on in, and it did....by hand.....all the way. At this time I said "I don't like this, I think I have a broken band." Am I right?

Sadly, most likely. Though there is an outside chance the band moved out of position when you did the servo. You can tell if you remove the pan, and it is possible to move the band back in position from underneath if it IS out of position. If the band is broken you have a 50/50 chance of findsing the brokenpart in the pan.
