ok, I have been doing the searches and checking threads but nothing with my kind of problem. mine is a push button 4x4, and when I hit the button it lights up, put it in neutral to engage the lo and the lights go off. but also, it isn't actually in 4x4 when the lights are on also I found out, but no grinding or odd sounds at all from the hubs. I need input on this one please. thanks....jon

it is kind of confusing how your worded your post, but you do know that you have to put it in 4x4 first than put it in 4 low? do you hear any clicking from the back computer when you hit the 4x4 button? if you have access to a jack and some jack stands jack it up and see if indeed your 4x4 doesnt work.

if it doesnt it could be one of many things. do a search for shift motor rebuild first, to make sure that is not the problem. If the shift motor is in good order, then it probably will be your auto-lock hubs (which you will come to find out suck really bad).

what most people do (including me just recently) is to change over to manual hubs. #28068X that is the part number for the manual hub conversion kit. If you decide to go manual hubs, if you call 4wheelparts and tell them you need that part number it is only 7 bucks compare to 40 on their web site (you will need to order 2, one for each side). of course you still need the manual hubs. but you said there was no grinding so i would check the shift motor first.
good luck

just some info that i found that helped me with the manual hubs
