Body Work & Detailing

Waxing washing, wheel cleaning and body work. This is the place to discuss those topics.

How do you polish and wax your Explorer without making a mess of the plastic trim? Is there an line of off-the-shelf products for detailing the exterior paint that does not stain the plastic? I need some minor swirl removal, polish and wax. There is a lot of plastic/vinyl parts on Explorers. Around the wheel wells, both bumpers, the rocker panels under the doors and more. When I'm detailing a car, it's impossible for me to keep the polish and wax splatter off these parts. It seems that most polish and wax products will stain the plastic with a white color that is very difficult to remove (I've heard a pencil eraser works). One option would be to mask off the vinyl, but that's a lot of work plus it's not terribly practical...
Hello, I have a 2015 Ford Explorer and the passenger side windshield side molding has ripped off while driving down the highway. I have purchased replacment parts and have a question about installation. Attached are two pictures. My question is about the thing shown by a red arrow in attachment #1. In the youtube video I watch this glob isn't present. I am wondering if this is just a big glob of silicone that I can remove? If so, how is the best way to remove it? I think underneath it is a clip hole? The second attachment shows what it looks like in the video. Thanks for any input.
The howling sound of wind and road noise leaking past tattered old weatherstripping finally drove me to remedy the situation. The front passenger door of my ’99 has been leaking air like a window screen in a hurricane and the resulting noise required attention, immediate attention. The front passenger door weatherstripping had seen better days. I obtained the door weather stripping ( part number F1TZ7820708C ) from my local Ford dealer for $41.00. The first step was removal of the old weatherstripping. This was accomplished by first loosening the plastic trim components ( no need to remove ) and then simply pulling the old weatherstripping free. The new weatherstripping was simply put into the metal on the body around the...
Recently bought 2001 Exp Sport for my son, Gold. Grey and that's faded grey trim - tupperware all around. Not looking too strong. Saw some posts here that it was possible to remove the trim and paint with Krylon Fusion. So we plunged in. Did some Mx work on the truck first and each time we had it up or were underneath it we put Liquid Wrench where ever we thought we'd be removing bolts to take off the trim and the running boards. Paid off later. Two running boards were held up by 3 brackets, each bracket 3 13mm bolts, the metal tubes were held to the brackets by 6 10mm bolts. Minor bit of cosmetic rust on the running boards, we treated that with a rust dissolver and sanded. This was the first weekend and to be fair after...
