Body Work & Detailing

Some 120 pound environmentalist piece of **** cowardly pr!ck mother f*cker keyed me good today. I am so f*cking amped right now I'm slightly shaking. If I had one wish, I wish I could've caught the *******, but maybe it's best I didn't, because I'd probably be in cuffs right now. Anyway, for Monmix and others, what can you suggest to try to reduce the ugliness? It's slightly wavy, dug in deep but not down to bare metal, I don't think. I looks like they got me once down the drivers side front and rear doors, and then decided it wasn't good enough, and came back and did the drivers side door deeply. Any help appreciated. Sorry for the language, but I am livid right now and need to get this out.
If your center console is ripped, falling apart, etc. it is really quite easy and inexpensive to just recover it yourself. Step One: Remove the three screws at the bottom of the lid. Step Two: Find a nice area to work on. Step Three: Flip the lid over and remove all the screws and remove the black pastic lid. Step Four: Remove all the staples currently holding the vinyl on. Step Five: Remove the vinyl from the armrest. Step Six: Spread old vinyl over your new vinyl and trace. Step Seven: Cut relief cuts near the front edges. Step Eight: Start on one side and staple the edge down. Then stretch over to the opposite side and staple again. Keep stretching to the opposite...
With the crappy weather here to stay in Western NY, it got me thinking about how often i find myself washing the salt & road grime off the X. I'd estimate that i'm at the nearest high-pressure self-wash station twice a week - spending about 10 minutes and $4 in quarters each time. How often do you wash your X? What are your methods? :D Y'All southerners that don't need to worry about snow, slush & salt don't count so don't vote! ;)
This is the first of a few of my Body Mods that I plan on doing...since I am at a point where I know I will be the first to do it, I am letting you guys know what I am doing. I wanted a modified hood, BAD. It is the LAST body panel that I have yet to modify. But I HATE the Cowl Induction hood that has been put on EVERYTHING. It is notoriously GM, and I really don't like the idea of a trademark GM trait, on a Blue Oval product! So Cowl Induction was out of the question. Then I got to looking at what others have done to their Explorers, and I REALLY liked the 94-98 Cobra Hood scoops that someone (troll? Xbox?) grafted onto the 2nd Gen X hood...but the 1st Gen is WAY too square to make it look right. Then I...
First I want to thank everyone for looking at my post. I am new to ExplorerForum, but it has been very helpful already. I am a huge Ford fan, but my wife's 2017 Explorer Sport was in a wreck a couple of weeks ago and the damage seems oddly excessive. My wife was pulling into the parking garage at her work and when she pushed the brake pedal there was nothing there. That's the least concerning part of my story. So we called the insurance and they looked at the damage (see pic) and they estimated about $ 6k. It was a low speed impact, no airbag, no seat belt marks, so roughly 3 to 5 miles per hour. Regardless, we have it taken to our repair shop of choice. They have it for about a week taking it apart and identifying any damage...
I, like many here am obsessed with keeping my Ex as clean as possible. One little trick I have been doing long before I got the Explorer, and for some reason it seems no one else I have asked, or I have seen does this. Keep a few packs of Handi-Wipes in your glove box so when you get back in your Ex after filling up with gas, your hands dont stink up the interrior. I mean really. I know I am not the only one here who does this am I ?
It looks as if spring is here to stay finally here in WI, so it's time to get out the buffer and get the Explorer all shined up for summer cruisin'. Just wondering if anyone had a favorite wax/polish/sealant they used. I planned on buffing mine first with a foam finishing pad and 3M Perfect-it finishing glaze to get out all the swirls the previous detailer buffed into it with their quickie "one step" products, then using Liquid Glass on it. Nicest thing about Liquid Glass is it builds up, so applying a second coat once the first cures actually deepens the gloss and adds protection. Most polishes or waxes will self-clean thru the first coat, so it's pointless to add more. Black is such a PITA to keep clean and...
Alright guys, new idea I have. I want to tint out the taillights without any covers or any sprays. I was thinking if I went and brought out a roll of 35% tints smoke color or black ( I have no idea which one) and stick it on the tail lights how would they look. The main thing I am worried about is the light penetrating through the tints, since this is a legal issue I want to be on the safe side. My most main concern is the light penetrating through the tints and I would like to ask what percentage would the light go through the tints and would be bright enough. The color isn’t much of a issue but I do want it to look black. I’ve only seen ‘smoke’ colored ones and I want the tints to go through with the color of the body so would the...
I want to do what rick did turn the 1st gen into a 2nd gen. I know perry's is probably the best way to go but are there any other places to buy em?? Also i cannot find the price for the whole setup, front panels, grill, hood, and the back panels. If any of you have done it i would love to hear about it. Also a good estimate would be nice too. Thanks
Hey fellow exploders. New here. Will have a post in new member forum soon with all the details of my exploder details and repairs. Thanks for all the help, It's nice to know there's a good community, especially since I plan on keeping my exploder, well, until it explodes. lol. I have a 97 Ford explorer EB 4wd. V6 SOHC 155k miles. As long as I can remember there has been this gap in between the driver door and the front fender. Never really bothered me, that is until recently when I had new hood struts and hood latch put in and tried to align the hood to the body. I have not ran into anything or run over anything since I have owned it (2006). Before that my step dad owned it since 2003 and he never abused it or was in any accidents...
