I've read all the threads, but there is sometimes conflicting/confusing info regarding the speedometer gears. I'm hoping someone can clarify for me.

I have a 1997 XLT 5.0 AWD and have picked up an early 4406 from an F150. I believe the transfer case is from a 1997, and it does have a visible speedo drive gear in the tailshaft.

If I put my existing VSS/speedo gear in that hole, my speedo will still work after the swap, correct?

Also - is there a rebuild manual available for the 4406? I can't seem to find much online, especially in terms of parts breakdowns, etc.

Thanks!

I run off the rear tone ring in the diff for speedometer so unsure as to what you will need for speedometer gears. If the 4406 came out of a truck with your same gear set I imagine it will work if not may work just be off.

As for information and parts break down here is a link to a company I have bought a few things from. It has a full parts list with parts numbers as well as a fully labeled diagram for anything you need.
