    Front end squeaking

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will definitely check the rear brakes; my wife says she now thinks its coming from the rear passenger side. After being under there so much and reading all the posts here, I think that this truck just needs a weekend worth of TLC; ball joints, bushings...

    Front end squeaking

Pads are new this spring. I never let pads get bad enough to ruin a rotor, and have trained my wife to tell me when she hears noises so I can catch stuff like that. The rotors still have some decent meat on them. You have given me pause to double check, though.

    Front end squeaking

So, I went ahead and replaced both wheel hubs, the squeaking went away for a couple of weeks, but now its back. Sometimes it goes away when you brake, sometimes it starts when you brake. It seems to be linked to turning the steering wheel left, and it is definitely "rotational". By that I...

    IAC gasket

So, fiddling with the dying Explorer and replaced the PCV. No improvement. So I start back at square one and start looking at the vacuum line and IAC. I take off the block under the IAC that attaches to the manifold and give it a squirt with solvent and blow through it to make sure it's not...

    Cleaning engine

I would try to loosen as much as you could with just water pressure first. Let it sit for a bit to drip dry. Then the rest is up to you. It depends on how safe you want to be for yourself and/ or the environment. By far the best thing to remove petroleum based soils is a solvent. If you are...

Engine whining and surging, and dying a lot

What started out 6 months ago as a loud buzz is now a huge headache. We thought the truck was suffering from a bad IAC, but after 3 replacements I concluded that it must not be that (right?) Now, it the engine is surging at idle, the loud hum is still there, and it is dying all the time when...

    trip computer

Can anyone tell me what the trip computer/ compass/ exterior temp computer is called? The one that fits in the ceiling/ headliner? I can't seem to find a replacement, but mostly because I don't know what to call it, I think. Thanks.

    1999 Explorer Ball Joint

I've been to the sticky and I was just gettting ready to head to the parts store when... I looked in my Chilton's and it said that for '99, the ball joint was integral to the control arm and I needed to replace the arm, not the joint. HUH??? I can buy the joint from the part store, wth...

    Passenger Rear Window

The rear window would go down but not up. I am stumped. I have taken the door apart so that there is basically just the window and the vertical rail. Here is what I have found out: I tested the switch first. I even went as far as trying the switch on the driver rear window, and it...

    Please, no laughing

found it. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=257622 I suspected that this was it, but was hoping to be wrong. Man, that looks like a pain.

    Please, no laughing

but I can't for the life of me find my PCV valve. My chiltons and everything online says it's on the valve cover back by the brake booster, but it most definitely is not. In fact, the only port out of my valve cover is the one on the right side that goes directly to the intake between the MAF...

    Not my IAC

So I have the infamous hum from my 1999, and yes I replaced the IAC. I have even returned the new IAC twice in the hopes that maybe I got a faulty one. I read on these forums that maybe the coolant temp sender might affect the IAC, so I replaced that as well. Now, if it was just humming I...

    Loud humming noise

This could be the best information on the forum. We have a brand new IAC and it still wasn't working. Being smarter than the Chilton's manual, and not wanting to have to reprogram all the radio stations, I did NOT disconnect the battery, though the manual told me to. Seems secondary, or...
