Hello everybody, I sure hope you guys know what my problem is with my 94 Ford Ranger XLT 4WD. Anyways here is my problem, A few days ago I started having problem with my transmission, whenever I first start my truck and I don't let it warm up enough (running 5 or 10 min) and when I put it in Gear (Automatic) either reverse, drive, or over drive it will slip in and out of gear. Like it goes into nuetrol. It will do it two or three times before it quits. Then after that it gives me no trouble at all drives perfect. I checked the fluid level it did need a tad bit. But it still did it. Oh yes I did have the truck running when I checked it. It only gives me this problem if the truck has not been running for several hours. The weather is kinda of cold here average temp is 40 to 50 degrees. Not sure that has any thing to do with that or not, but thought you should know. Early mornings when I leave it around 20 or 30 degrees. Anyways I sure hope sombody knows what to do. Is my tranny going bad?
Yikes that don't sound good. Does that require the transmission to be rebuilt? Sorry I am don't know much at all when it comes to tranny issues. How much do you think that would cost me? Thank you in advance.
They are not hard to replace. You have to open the bottom pan, remove the valve body bolts, and electrical connectors. Read Glacier991's A4LD valve body rebuild diary which is a sticky in the transmissions, and transfer cases section.
