Jeff, its easy to tell the weight capacity - just put a couple of fat chicks and a bushel of corn to feed em in the bed, and see if it bottoms out :)

Here, chickchickchickchick...here chickchickchick... :D :p

We have added a few mods to the Titan:

K & N 77 CAI
custom cat back Flowmaster 70 dual exhaust
switch to synthetic fluids
External ATF filter

We just returned from a 100 mile road trip to Atlanta. With my son driving 75 MPH he averaged 15.9 MPG. And with me driving at 65 MPH, we got 19.8 MPG.

Speed kills Titans too.

We ran the F-150 down to the shore, and we averaged 17.2 mpg on the highways at 75 mph...we get an overall average of about 15.7 town/highway. Not too shabby for a big 'ol brick.... :)

Tonnau covers help right?

There are mixed reviews on that subject.

My son has ordered a hard cover and it will be here soon. We shall see its effect then.

I have a hard tonneau on my F-150 but I haven't experimented to see what it does to the gas mileage. From an aerodynamics standpoint, it should help quite a bit, and I've heard several people say it's increased their mileage. So far I've added KC driving lights, the hard tonneau, a bed extender, and had the bed superlined. We're VERY happy with the F-150 so far. The ride quality and noise level are far superior to my old Explorer. The biggest problems? First, that it came with an open differential even though it has the towing package. That'll be swapped out one of these days!! The second issue (if you want to call it one) is that there is no sensation of speed. You can be driving down a back road, and you look down at the speedometer and you're doing 80+. The truck is just soooo smooth over the bumps that you just don't realize how fast you're going. At first I wasn't sure the brakes were that good, but we've come to realize it's because sometimes we're going a lot faster than we think we are when we step on the brakes.

Hey Al, any updates on the Titan? My mileage is starting to creep up. I ran it from my place down to the Harrisburg airport (80 miles through the central pa mountains on a 4 lane) and averaged 18.8 mpg at 72 mph. We're discussing putting a CAI and Cat back on the F-150, but I'm waiting for a guy I work with to go on vacation so he can check his long distance mileage. He just added a Gibson cat back and I want to see how it affected his mileage before I put one in.

My son ordered an electric fan today.

We are going to the dyno next Thursday.

Also, he debadged the doors ( V8 Titan ). Looks much better.

If the load capacity is 1450lbs it is most definately a 3/4 ton truck. Thats what 3/4 ton truck means, it can carry 3/4 of a ton. 3/4 of a ton is 1500 lbs. A half ton truck has a payload capacity of 1000 pounds...or 1/2 a ton.

That is not correct. A 1/2 has a payload capacity of about 1 ton to 1 1/2 tons. A 3/4 ton has a payload capacity of 2 to 2 1/2 tons approximately. A 1 ton truck has the payload of over 3 tons. The American rating system of 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton ect. is an old rating system. A truck that is rated 3/4 ton means that anywhere that truck can physically go or take itself it can take 3/4 with it. In another words if a 3/4 ton truck can physically go up a 80 degree incline (I'm exaggerating obviously) or very rough terrain it can take 3/4 of a ton with it. The heaviest foriegn pickup so far has a payload of about 2000lbs, 1/2 ton truck by American truck rating.

I've personally seen just about every foreign make fail miserably in terms of reliability.

I will never ever even consider buying a foreign made car, I believe that they are the very definition of crap and nothing will change my mind.

Interesting. I have had a Nissan pickup that gave me 375k miles with not a single major problem. I have never had a domestic car/truck with that record. My son traded his Toyota T100 pickup in on this Titan he had 200l miles on it with not a single problem.

One should always keep an open mind.

We took my son's Titan and my Explorer out to a deserted new development to play with his AutoEnqinuity software ( http://www.autoenginuity.com/ ) and its Speed Tracker program ( http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-speedtracer1.html ).

We were unable to get dyno data on the Titan due to the fact that the Japanese computers do not report data fast enough. The dyno function gave very unreliable data for my truck ranging in readings of 205 to 461 HP.

We were able to get 1/4 mile times ( with excellent repeatability ). Average 16,4 sec, Hus truck :seems: much quicker than mine but the software said mine did 15.6 ( repeatable ).

Neither of us could believe it so we had a side by side go at it; I ate his lunch.

You beat the Titan that badly? Wow, I'm definitely surprised by that Aldive.

And yosh18981898, besides hijacking this thread, you've already painted yourself as an ignorant redneck. In this day and age, all vehicles, no matter where they're made, are much higher in quality and reliability then ever before. With the global manufacturing world the way it is, how can you even define what's American and what's not anymore. Its hard to do. Chevy Silverados are built in Canada, but Nissan Titans and Toyota Tundras are built in the US - so which one is really American? Personally, I define it as where the money ends up. Using that criteria, Chrysler is as foreign as Toyota. The only American companies are Ford and GM.

Aldive, apologies for the hijack :)

Or the time the old nissan pickup came back firing down our road trying to pull one empty grain wagon, only to get passed by a diesel super duty pulling three loaded grain trailers. To me, that moment defined the difference between domestic and import vehicles.

How can you compare torque and hp between a (most likely) I4 in an old truck and a deisel V8 in a new truck? Of course a deisel will out-pull a 4 cylinder gas engine. Comparing apples to oranges here...

Sorry, but I find it hard to believe that an Explorer beat a Titan. That's just me though.

Ok Ok time for me to chime in....
Secondly, CDW had it completly right. Stephen, I see you have listed in your signature that you own a lexus and an infitity. I can't tell you how much I want to T-bone cars like that with my 150 pound homemade bumper everytime I see one. So far I've had enough self control to refrain from actually doing it.

Jealousy's a ***** huh?

It actually wasn't time for you to chime in at all, and rudeness or flame bait is simply not tolerated be it towards me or towards anyone else.

I'm not going to delete your post, I'm going to put a warning on your account for hijacking the thread and baiting me, aldive, and the majority of people who have been participating the thread with your post. A warning means next time you do something like this, we will ban you.

Cut it out or hit the road.
