Ok I decided I wanted to put a cone filter on today but before I went out and bought anything I went over my air box and I know I have a bimetal sensor that has 2 vacum hoses on them. Now my question is is there a way I can put a cone sensor on and what do I do with this sensor/vacum lines? thanks for any help in advance.

You don't need the sensor. Plug the hoses with a couple screws.

Ok in doing so will this trip the cel? and what is the purpose of those hoses anyway?

It's supposed to heat up the engine quicker or something, a pretty worthless device. No CEL will show.

thanks for your help i know it probably wont help much if any but do you think i'll see any gain in power or mpg?

With an open element filter you'll definitely feel a difference. The power gain won't be much but the different in throttle response is huge. I never saw any mileage gains but you could get around 1mpg better.

Ok so i did the swap and put in a cone filter and I must say I think it gave my truck a deeper sound on hard exceleration if that possible I did notice quicker pick up.

I ran into a little problem though after taking out the box and buying the filter/ adapter I found that the adapter wasnt big enough for my intake(screw holes didn't match up) so what I did to correct this was I took my box and I cut out the part that was mounted to the intakefrom the box(where the metal piece with the mafs is located) I put the adapter into that and then bolted it on and it worked perfect.

I'll post up some pics tomorrow of the jury rigging I did and try to better show the piece im talking about.

if you removed all the crap from the stock air intake you should wind up with only one line left over. That is the hard vacum line, I just put a #10 1" long bolt in mine ( according to KKM instructions). The other rubber hose went to the exausht manifold intake preheater. This is used to keep your throtle body from freezing up under perfect conditions (throttle body freezup is very uncomon unless condtions are perfect).

I would remove the tin part from the manifold along with the ducting that runs to the radiator core support. All in all I think I removed 10 lbs of crap from under the hood doing this mod.

I also noticed a much deeper note to my engine under acceleration. It also seemed to give the motor more grunt (pulling power). The only problem is it was not enought to over come the 35" tires and 8 or so inches of lift, even with the 4.56 gears.

Ok a little help here please. I went in today and I took out all reminense of the air box(including the mount) but I was unable to take the air duct that leads up from the bumper. I noticed that there was a hose(looks like dryer hose) that goes from the duct to the manifold? is it safe to remove this hose? and what else is there to remove? thanks alot in advance.

It's ok to remove the duct.

other then the hose to the manifold what else is it connected to cause it moves but i cant seem to pull it out and dont want to pull to hard and break something.

there is a little tin piece that the dryer hose connects to. i removed this also. it is only held on with 2 little bolts. it is not needed when you get rid of all that other crap. lastly i removed the ducting that connects beside the radiator. that is only held in with opne or two screws. its a tight fit to get it out from between the inner fender and frame rail, but will come out if properly motivated.

heres some pics

these pics show the little bit of moding I had to do to make it fit.

If they say it fits IT SHOULD FIT. I would've sent it back. And you should get a new filter. Those no-name reusable filters are crap.

You really should have gotten a KKM; it would have been a lot less hassle for you.
The KKM bolts right in, has the proper adapter size, etc. The way you have it there, I'd be careful about vacuum leaks in the intake.

the filter is apc and i dont think its gunna leak its on pretty tight.

Like the others have already stated the Bimetal sensor is not needed. It is used as a thermostat switch to open or close a vane in the duct behind the bumper. When I installed my KKM I removed the stock air box and keep it in the garage (in case it is needed for state inspections).

how about cutting the sensor off of the box, drilling two holes in the end of the air filter, fish the hoses through the holes and hook up the sensor inside the filter? that's what i'm thinking about doing just to keep the crap hooked up. I already have the filter in there and a wad of electrical tape on the hoses for now. what do you guys think?

There's no point in keeping the "sensor".
