What are the small, inexpensive details that you've done/want to do to your explorer JUST for looks?

My best mod for $10 dollars and under would have to be the third brake light decal I got on eBay. Every time I hit the brakes, the word EXPLORER lights up in bright red for everyone to see. I think its a great addition.

it depends on what inexpensive is to u
if ur willing to spend like 150-175 maybe a window tint
if ur talkin about like 50 dollars maybe those rain deflectors or a bug deflector!!!!

ap - did you get that from a store? that sounds freaking awesome man!!

gluve - im not talking about any specific type of money. just small, uneccesary things. I want to pimp my explorer out, but that isn't why i made the thread; just wanted to see what ya'll like.

i like the roof rack dude!

I don't see any of those stickers on eBay right now but thats where I got mine. Good luck.

If you got $40 to spare, you can get a set of clear turn signals, changes up the look of the front end. Just look on ebay, there are a lot of em for sale. I am going to get some, I just got new headlights yesterday, now my orange stockers look like crap.
You can also get clear taillights to match, but they are expensive.

I took the roof rack off mine, the '95s just don't match the curves of the Gen II body. I also took a can of krylon and painted the silver on my grill to black to emulate the 98-02 style, that and the silver was rapidly failing. I also got some lowering blocks from the parts store and lowered mine an 1". I also painted all the flat black trim on the doors to gloss black.

hmm...how complicated is it to lower/elevate?

ok well depending on the color of ur interior u can spray paint some of the hard plastics like radio bezel and stuff like that!

yeah that sounds pretty cool for cloth interior; i have gray leather though...

so go like 2tone gray and black!!!!

The brake stickers I haven't seen for 1st gens.
Changing over the chrome bumpers(front & rear), grill & headlight trim over to black. My X looks so much better. The diamond lights look great as well.

jason, did you change TO chrome or FROM chrome? mine is a green that SORT OF matched the sides.

I'm thinking about maybe buying some smokeout for my lights...that'll look cool.

it depends wut u spray if ur spraying a hard plastic like lets say a vent or handle
u got to sand it and prep it then spay light coats

as for paint krylon makes a spray for plastic
and for will it come off.. probably not so try it on a piece were its hard to see!

A lot of people dislike the look of the long antenna on the explorer. It's length seems out of place with the style of the truck. There is an easy mod you can do to shorten the antenna for a better look, with no apparent affect on radio reception or performance.
Picture159.jpg

Remove the antenna from the car. To remove the tip, I clamped the antenna to a workbench and fit it into the notch of a nail puller (wrapped in some electrical tape to reduce nicks). The tip easily popped off with a couple whacks from a hammer. (Careful not to lose the tip. It's small and will go flying!)
anttip.jpg

Decide the length you want to cut the antenna down to. I went with 18" from the bottom, which makes it about even with the top of the roof. You could probably go as short as 17" or so, depending on the result you want. Measure carefully and cut with a hacksaw. Lightly sand or file down the cut end of the now shorter antenna to make reapplying the tip easier. Put a small amount of strong adhesive inside the original tip and place it back
onto the antenna. Make sure the tip is sitting straight before the adhesive dries.

The antenna and tip will get a little scuffed with this process. Give it a light touchup with a good quality spray paint before putting it back on the car.
The result is a subtle, but much cleaner look for the antenna on the car. Radio reception did not seem affected by this modification.

Lowering your Wiper Arms
Picture159.jpg

Before you do this mod, sit in your explorer and get a good feel for the position of the stock wipers from inside the truck. Really look at the view out the front when they are totally stock so you can tell the difference after you do this mod to see if it's worth it for you.

While this mod does look cool from the outside, it's really on the inside where you will notice a clean view of the hood and a less clutered view in general from the driver and passenger seat.

To remove the wiper arm, simply pull that little latch out, fold the wiper arm back and pull it off. Make sure that little tab is completely out (you might have to hold it out) or the wiper arm won't lift off. No tools are needed.

To re-install, slide them back on, push the little tab back into the arm and lower the arm.

While doing this mod, you might want to turn the wipers on / off to test your settings. Turn them on / off before you do anything to make sure you got the default arm position.

You want to ensure you don't lower the arms completely onto the plastic lower cowl, but just touching or above should be ok.
