Is there a trick to this? Everything is disconnected. I can't move it to the passenger side because the mounting boss won't pass through the cross member. I can't move it to the driver side because the pinion housing won't pass through the cross member. I can't rotate it backwards because the pinion housing is up against the differential. I can. rotate it forward because the mounting bosses interfere with the center of the cross member. WTF?

I recently replaced mine on my '98. Hardest part was disconnecting the power steering lines. I did not lift the engine. Disconnect band holding the boot on on the passenger side. Move the rack as far as you can to the passenger side and pull the boot back. You can then get to the inner Tie rod knuckle, remove inner tie rod. Push shaft from rack all the way in and move rack back to center and pull it out the front. Do the reverse to get it back in but be carefull on removing the band so it can be reused. You should also use some kind of locktite when you put the inner tie rod back on.

That worked. I only had to remove the left inner tie rod. Thanks.

Once you get the new rack in do you have to do anything in regard to bleeding steering fluid or do you just connect everything back together and drive?

Thanks

I just connected everything back up. It will take a little time for all the air to move to the resivor. The steering may feel jumpy for a while, every bump is magnified. Go straight to a shop for an alignment tho and make sure the bolt securing the steering column is tight before you go.

Thanks I will do that...
