I have no air coming out of the front heat/air on my 1997 Explorer. The rear works fine and the temperature is is accurate, but it's completely dead up front. I've checked all the fuses, and even changed out the blower motor, but it's still silent.

I've read the posts about the blend door, but I don't think that this is my problem as I have no air flow at all... hot or cold.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Cheers

Not a blend door issue.

I am referencing a 99 Explorer. I don't have my 97 stuff with me right now...but I'll bet this is the same...

You don't say whether or not you have ATC. If you do, check fuse #6 in the Power Distribution box under the hood, on the left fended apron. Then check fuses 2, 9, and 18 in the interior fuse box. All can have a factor on fan operation. If all those are good, then do a diagnostic check at your head unit and see if there are any codes. The only things left would be the fan controller under the hood just below and inside the fan motor, or the head unit itself. There is no fan relay on an ATC equipped vehicle.

If manual a/c, check fuse #2 inside, and the same fuse 6 outside in the Power Dist Box. (that should be a 50A fuse) There is a relay for this. It's in the Aux Relay Box #2. (I believe that is located under the hood at the very RF of the vehicle.) There is also a high speed blower relay in the same box. Then there is a blower resistor located where the controller goes on ATC equipped vehicles. (by the fan motor) and of course, the switch. This should get you enough information to start doing your testing.

Thanks a ton Cobra. I found the Aux Relay in the LF between the battery and fender, but it wasn't necessary. I rechecked all the fuses, etc., but what seemed to fix it was unplugging and replugging the blower motor. Considering the plug only goes one way, I found it a bit odd that it would make a bad connection, but after going through the motions, it started working.

$40 and some elbow grease. Can only imagine what a dealership would have charged for this.

Cheers!
