..I need to find out what retail auto parts stores carries these in stock.....I have searched and thought there was a thread that mentioned this but could not find it...

..This is for the gasket that fits between the stock air box and the MAF housing...As a result of age and swapping my KKM and stock air filter for Smog requirements, my MAF gasket just fell apart..:(

...I prefer not to have to make a gasket if I don't have to..

...I've tried several parts stores and they do not carry them...I tried Ford and they show 1, out of town for $20...

Stores I have tried and do not sell them are:

Napa
Kragen
AZ
Parts Source
PepBoy's - I can special order from them (7-10) days for $8
Edit: They tried to sell me a throttle body gasket..:(

...Any other store options??..Thanks..:salute:

These things were probably designed to be left alone and never seperated from the airbox/MAF so they are just thin and flimsy.

With the incredible prices on these, I would just get some of the most inexpensive gasket material you can for $1.99 a sheet or whatever, plop the MAF housing on there, do an outline on the corner of the material, cut it out, then use the hole of the MAF as a template to cut the big center hole and punch out the four bolt holes.

It will probably be a better gasket than the factory crap.

Or save yourself even more hassle and just use some Permatex Black Silicone, make a small bead around the air cleaner hole, let it get tacky, bolt on the MAF and you're good to go.

This is definitely a case where the search for a $2 part makes it cost more like $50 in wasted time and gas. That's pretty impressive the dealer found one, though. The only other solution I'd think to be reasonable is popping one off an X at a junkyard if it comes off in one piece.

...Thanks for the reply..

...I R&R the filters and do the swapping quiet often so I'm not wanting to use RTV's or silicone...

...The time I've spent searching, (all by phone or the internet), I have found that these gaskets are commonly supplied with the new MAF's...I currently do not need a new MAF as of yet, and I am hoping to find one of the MAF supplier's do sell these gaskets separately...

...As these Explorers get older and the replacement parts get harder to find, I'm hoping others who run across these will post up where they found them and what they cost..This could save others the time and trouble in the future...:biggthump

...As for the make your own gaskets and the junkyards, they are definitely on my list of options, until I find a new gasket...

This is a coincindence. I took my MAF off my airbox today and the gasket fell apart. Had to Permatex it back on.

What sort of R&R are you doing that requires seperating the MAF housing from the airbox/adapter?

I haven't ever seen the gasket supplied with a MAF, whether new or rebuilt.

The Permatex Black Silicone could be a permanent solution for the airbox if you got a nice round bead on there, then let it dry on the airbox.

A gasket isn't really necessary for a cone filter adapter if it's the machined aluminum type, those fit pretty much flush with the factory housing or any decent machined aftermarket unit. The cheap steel adapters would probably need something.

Otherwise if you're set on a paper gasket, I strongly suggest cutting your own from gasket material. With a $1.99 sheet and a $5 X-acto knife, you can make 6-8 gaskets or more for just a few bucks, and they will be better. You might even want to go with the adhesive sheet that's sticky on one side, that way it will stick to the airbox and be even easier to reinstall.

hmm lemme check this extra lid i have here and see if it has the gasket on it and i can get it off in one piece.

have you tried getting a manila envelop and making your own?

I am supprised that you have to change out the air box. I never had to change out the box and my aftermarket filter on my truck when I smogged my EX.

I would not use any gasket sealer/maker.

You realize, for less than the time you have spent looking for one, you could have made a new one from bulk gasket material!

Otherwise, Ford is probably the only source.

...Hahaha...I forgot to update ths...Within 24hrs of posting this thread, I located a Manuf. who sells and ships these gaskets for the racing world..

...They are located in Calif. and sell the gasket for a whopping $4.10 plus tax...They do ship and that is an additional $10 for those who either order it locally or thru them...:p:

Ted, I have one of the foam-ish ones from a second gen in my tool bag if youre still in need of one. can ship it out, its got some life left in her. at least it was in my tool bag yesterday lol

well looks like you beat me to it.. hey, how about ordering those in bulk, maybe the shipping will be cheaper. then sell the extras to members on here. i know i would buy at least 2. what kind of material is it?

i was actually searching the catalogs at work a couple weeks ago looking for a replacement for mine, the factory paper one is slowly falling apart. i didnt come up with anything, even called Fel-Pro and was unable to get a PN.

...Thanks, and I do really appreciate the offer...:salute:

...I would hang on to it as a spare as some of these common parts are getting harder to find...;)

...again, Thanks...

...If we could order about 10 at a time I could run out and get them...I would have to verify there stock but, if there is a real interest I could get them and ship them out...:dunno:

..I am not available to contact them at this hour...They are within a 4 hour round trip for me though...

eh.. no big deal, i was just curious. if it was something other than paper or thin rubber gasket material that might be something worth getting ahold of.
