Was originally a 20 minute video showing my commute to my job which is a nice drive.. same way I take to work and back every single day,, I have no idea why I didn't see this guy. I obviously stopped for cross traffic... Idk.. it just happened. Obviously this doesn't happen often or I would have been without this truck long ago. If I was late just a half a second later I probably wouldn't have made it. He was speeding so I don't think either of us would have been doing too great., had to slam on his brakes for the semi in front of him also.

AAHH... I didn't say anything out loud but in my mind.. I was juss like.. Oh ****.

This is the truck =P :

He probably hit the gas when he saw you going across slowly, to zip right in front of you and "teach you a lesson", even though the semi made him slow down moments later.

Looks like an easy place to get into a wreck from being impatient and trying to make it across even though there is oncoming traffic. Best bet is not taking the chance and playing it safe from now on.

yikes close call

I wasn't even in a hurry, just a typical day. I don't try to race oncoming traffic, that's foolish. I have no idea why I didn't see him, I definitely should have. I won't deny that. I wasn't messing with anything or focusing on anything in particular. All I saw was the semi, the suby and the yota. Next thing I know, this guy is right on my corner.

Good reaction time though, eh?

A windshield/door pillar can sometime block your vision for that split second .... and there's nothing there, only to be about piledriven into next week by something you didn't see. You can also zoom your vision from right to left and totally miss something that you can't believe you missed. That's happened to me before too .......scares the bejeebes out of you doesn't it!

What are you using for your mobile cam?

damn that was a close call

This kinda stuff happens all the time, I mean not this exact situation but in Alaska.. close calls aren't so rare as a lot of others may think. In the summer, not so much... but winter rolls around.. watch out for tourists and military.

And after thinking about it, I'm starting to think it was the pillar which blocked my vision... pretty much pulled a Turdle when he hit that pole.

As for the camera, it's just a typical digital camera.. had it placed up on the dash against the windshield. I would like to find a more practical dash cam setup of somesort.. Can be useful for many things.

Ah, those Ranger owners... :D

Yea.. outta all the vehicles this could have been with.. it Had to be a Ranger. =|

This is why you're taught to "rock n roll" when driving commercial vehicles with large window pillars. You lean forward and then back while looking around the pillar then turn to the right side and repeat, and do it a final time on the left again as you start moving forward.

Good reaction time though :). I wouldn't mind having a dash camera either.

Good idea, I'm going to start doing that.

Holy Close Call Batman!!! Glad you missed that one!!!:p:

Definitely. Btw, I've been doing the "rock n roll" thing as you've mentioned, it's a good habit to pick up.

Glad to hear it. I also put convex mirrors on my side view mirrors to help get rid of those blind spots. I think everyone would be better off having to learn what it takes to get a CDL. If nothing else so they realize that a 30 ton vehicle can't stop on a dime, and if you tempt the laws of momentum you'll lose every time.

You talking about the small round mirrors? I use those, they really help.

Yes, I prefer the wedge style (click for example) over the round style because you get a larger picture of the side you want to look at with the wedge. As opposed to half of the mirror showing you a side of your car which is useless. Also, in my opinion these should be closer to the inboard side of the mirror not on the outboard corner. Because placing them on the outboard corner robs you of some of the image you're trying to improve visibility of.
