I was driving home from school at approximately 3 PM EST. And right before I hit an intersection, an old couple driving a sedan pulled in front of me. I didn't even have time to slam on the brakes. Total carnage ensued. I'm okay, but the older gentleman sustained serious injuries. My truck is dead, there was transmission fluid all over me when I came to after blacking out. Here are the photos.

Damn, I'm glad you made it out ok. Hopefully the older gentleman makes a full recovery. Sometimes things just can't be avoided. Hope you make out ok with the insurance settlement and you can always get another truck. Your health is always the most important thing.

I will, it was a classic failure to yield right of way. I'm just going to miss my Explorer. It was a blast, old girl.

Thanks, I just hope the older fellow is okay. Now I have to look into getting another truck.

More photos of the carnage.

How fast do you thing you were moving?

Highway speeds, 80-85 kmph.

you had trans fluid all over you???

were you still in the truck??

Yes, still not quite sure why. I was still in the truck when it was all over. When I came to, I noticed smoke coming from the dash. I walked out of the truck and sat down onto the grass, and phoned my father.

Wow- that was a bad pop- glad you're ok!!

Life and love is most important

Wow, those pictures speak volumes. Its times like these we appreciate that. I lost my father in a violent car accident over 20 years ago. It was devistating to say the least. Great to hear no loss of life.

Fatality at Fowlers Corner crash October 01, 2011

An 84 year old Omemee man has been identified as the person killed in a two-vehicle collision that occured Friday afternoon at Fowlers Corners.

A car and SUV collided shortly after 3 p.m. at Highway 7 and Lindsay Road. Anders Andersen was a passenger in one of the vehicles and died in hospital last night.

His wife, 79 year old Grace Andersen, remains in St. Michaels hospital in Toronto in critical condition.

The driver of the other vehicle, 22 year old Daniel Ainsworth, of the former Emily Township was treated and released last night.

Traffic was detoured for more than four hours. The investigation continues.

----------------------------

It's hard, I feel guilt, responsibility, and we knew the family too. I'll make it through this, but unfortunately Anders did not. He'll be missed.

Wait, who was at fault?

They were, they failed to yield right away on a straight through intersection. They essentially turned left in front of me when I was about 100 metres from them.

Positive waves

Sending some your way, that's tough news. Sorry man.

wow!

sorry to hear the bad news!

our prayers are with you

I made this as a reference. This is a low quality pan of the intersection.

Did the police talk to any witnesses? I hope for your sake that they did.

I was involved in an accident about 10 years ago in which someone was killed as well. Basically a couple kids were riding their bikes and one came out of an alley directly in front of me and I didn't have time to react before I hit him. I was not at fault, not charged with anything, and his friend told the police what happened as well. But in this lawsuit happy country 2 years later I was sued by his parents. Over the next few years my insurance company refused to settle because they knew the parents had no case and it even got to the point where the trial date came and I was waiting at the courthouse ready to take the stand. Somehow the parents lawyer talked my insurance company into settling that day for $25k.

Now I know I didn't have to pay anything myself and I have the peace of mind of knowing I didn't do anything wrong but it was still pretty stressful having something like that drag on for 5 years. And remember this is even with a witness on my side. So don't let your guard down and be prepared for the worst. And hopefully you have good insurance just in case....

Well, I personally know the other family involved, and so far no kind of charges have been laid. Because of the age of the other driver, the Police Constable notified me that she may not be charged. In that case it will be no fault for me, and she'll be deemed 'at fault' but not charged for it. I am prepared for the worst and there were dozens of witnesses whom have all given statements. The officer in charge of the investigation notified me that they see no reason at this point why I should be placed in such scrutiny for being at fault. Right now I'm busy trying to line up another Explorer to replace the one I lost. My insurance company is great, most people cannot believe I pay so little in insurance at my age (a same-age friend of mine was quoted for over 6k per year, I've glided by with 2k so far). Thank you everyone for your blessings and prayers.
