You do realize that the hatch is exactly the same except for the high mount stop light/trim and emblem text being different, right?

Or do you mean the 98+ hatch? For that you need a hatch, bumper if you prefer the look, taillights, and the tint will be a different color than the rest of your truck. (Smoke vs. bronze-ish)

yeah a 98 hatch i have custom bumpers, do i have to switch tail lights?

Yes, the lines and angle of the 98+ hatch will not work with the earlier taillights...

awesome thanks guys this forum has helped so much with the custom build

Be sure to post pics when she's done! :thumbsup:

i am planning a trip to pull-a-part soon, got a long list of parts i need and adding to it new picw comming soon

You'll also need to trim the 98+ lights, and they have a curved front on the sides, vs. flat on 91-94.

Ok here is a run down of the differences;

'91-'94 hatch to a '95-'97 is a direct fit' however the differences are obviusly the 3rd brake light and window sprayer but also totaly different wiring harnesses the older one has smaller harnesses on each side where the newer has 1 big one on the drivers side and the plugs are totally different so some holes are going to have to be drilled and the hanesses swaped to make it work (no big deal)

'91-'94 to a '98-'02 will bolt on and will have simular problems with the harness but also the taillight openings are totaly different

-'97 tails will not fit the '98+ hatch and '95+ tails will not fit -'94 quarter panels

I'm currently in the process of putting a '94 hatch on my '97 but am shaving everything so none of this is an issue for me.

i guess i will leave my hatch and scrap this idea, thank you so much for all the input

why would you scrap the idea?! i put a 2001 hatch on my explorer. i really like the looks of the newer hatch with the license plate in the middle of the hatch and the tail lights. it bolted right up, then bolted the lights up. played mr electrician and figured out what wires do what since its going from 93 to 2001. now everything on it works like factory. power locks and all

I don't suppose you happened to have done a write up, huh?

tweakedlogic no i didnt do a write up.
iheartbeams i might try it later on, but for now i will wait until i get some help from someone local with the know how.
