Ok, sorry on the play of words. Like to change my shocks on my ST. I see chat about Rancho's ( 5000's ? ) some talk about Bilsteins. What about the top line Monroes??
I use my ST to get around (drive to work/road trips ) yet I will from time to time go off road. Also I'm getting a permit to go on the beach.

its all preference, planning and budget and budget. have you figured out these factors yet? sounds like you got the planning thing down a bit, but do you plan on modding anything in the near future regarding the stance of your truck? how much do you plan to spend for a set of shocks? and do prefer a softer or stiffer ride? once you get these decided, im sure tons of people will chime in with their experiences. good luck!

No major Mods. The ride needs to improve. For me stiffer ride. It's has 2 Rancho now on it- in front- It has 2 replaced Ford/Motorcraft rear shocks. 145k on the clock. The front are worn and the Ford shocks are crap. As for the budget, not going to stupid on this. Then again, you have to break some eggs to make a omelet.

Anything is better then the stock shocks and swaybar endlinks. NApa blue shocks are Monroe's just painted and cheaper.

I have had Rancho 9000XL's on mine and they were great, adjustable for any type of driving and a huge help when towing/ hauling. I now have Monroe Sensatrac's on my Trac, their good for the price, I got them really cheap on sale they had a rebate on them. Not sure on which brand I'll try next. By the time I replace these I'll hopefully have my SAS, SOA done.

I've got monroes on mine too except my rears are air adjustable for towing (although you can cheat and use it as an instant lift off road haha) and I like that setup a lot. Im guessing they're like a cheap version of the rancho 9000s.

Thinking about picking up a set of these for the front - (sensatracs) and a set of these for the back (load adjusting sensatracs) (that price is for the pair, I'm pretty sure) .

Combined, it runs about $165, plus the monroe rebate- which would bring it down to $125 for all four corners. Not too bad at all if it needs to happen..

Autoplicity doesn't state that the load adjusting rear shocks fit the Sport Trac, but Advanced Auto Parts does... Anyone know for sure?

Hello. I have had the rear axle of my '01 Sport Trac replaced and it turns out to be geared up for a 4WD even though the truck itself is a 2WD. Just curious here, but would that make a difference in the kind of shock placed on the truck itself? The original axle had an issue that came without warning and that is how I found out about the 4WD vs 2WD. Thanks for reading and have a good one.

Using Monroe's e-catalog link above, rear shocks should be the same for RWD or 4WD.
May be clearance issues with an aftermarket rear sway bar and larger diameter shocks.

I love my Procomp es3000's. They are nice and soft and make on and offroad very enjoyable. I wouldn't reccomend them if you ever plan to tow or haul any serious weight though, due to the softness. The es9000's are stiffer if you want that but I really prefer a softer shock. (My other vehicle rides on EXTREMELY stiff coilovers and low profile tires so I have to make up for that with the truck being nice and soft lol)

Cool beans on the info. I do sometimes haul my ATV around. I might just get the ones for the 4WD and be done with it. I got some connections with a dealer that can get me these shocks at a very good price. Again thanks for the info and ya'll have a good day.

Would replacing my shocks change my alignment? The Sears mechanics said the 6 month alignment warranty doesn't include if I change out parts on the truck- Think they'd notice? Should it even matter?

shouldnt alter your alignment at all as long as all you are doing is replacing the shocks.

What a crock, another reason Sears is going under. You sure they didn't mean suspension parts other than shocks?

If the alignment they do doesn't last 6 months, don't go back to them anyway. I wouldn't worry about this at all. Especially witch changing shocks.

Well I didn't ask the fella about shocks specifically, so I don't know which 'parts' he was talking about that I couldn't replace without voiding the warranty on the alignment

I just didn't want to have it aligned, a week later change my shocks, and need another alignment lol.

Also, would tire PSI affect the alignment, or is it mainly the wheels that they align? Reason being, both my driver side was set to 37psi, and both passenger to 33psi.

I'll be fixing that in a few minutes, but would that have had adverse affects on the alignment?

That is odd how different the pressure in the tires are, though. One or two psi difference is one thing, but I wonder if they even paid attention to the pressure at all or just decided, "yep, it's on there, next tire."
