Check your tire pressure!!!!!! Like many others, I seemed to have rapidly lost my gas mileage over a month long period and started searching the forum for answers. I had no check engine lights or other red flags and didn't want to start the hit and miss routuine that seems so popular. I noticed leaving work one day that the back passenger tire looked a little low. It was barely noticable and didn't look terribly different from the front tires. I took it to the gas station for air and found out that each of the back tires had less than 15 psi of pressure in them! I know it seems like only a moron could not see this, but I assure you the tires really dont look that obvious if they're low! After filling them both up to 30-35 psi, gas mileage has shot throught he roof DUH!

I found mine dramatically improved when I discovered that the whining I was hearing was the alternator bearings. Once I had my alternator rebuilt, my mileage shot up, too (I also switched to 5w/30 synthetic blend, as well). I'm installing Autolite double Platinum plugs, as well as eventually installing a K&N filter and a cat-back exhaust, and I'm hoping that with the changes I've made already bringing me to about 17 mpg in the cold, I may see 20 by the time all is said and done. Will see.
