the back passenger doors will open from the outside but not the inside, and its not the child safety thing. people have to stick their arm out the window and open it. and its not to nice in the winter. its both doors. they went out within a month of each other. what could be wrong. i think im gonna take the panels off and see but any suggestions would be nice

I have the same problem with my rear driver's door. I haven't had a chance to look into fixing it yet. Let me know how you make out.

Mike

First of all, welcome to the site. You'll find lots of useful info here, and a lot of ways to drain your wallet :D

As for your problem, it might be that the pull rods from the inside handle to the door lock became disconnected somehow. Kinda strange that it would be both, but ya never know.

same happens to mine, try unlocking the doors before the person tries to open it, that's h0w my problem works, it can't be safe so i also need to repair it. THanks

tryed that. dont work. yeah thats why i want to fix them. it cant be safe at all. probly be sued over it too if some **** happend

I have the same problem. I dont usually ride with passengers so I dont get many complaints. When I open them from the outside, it sounds totally different than opening one of the front doors. When you open a front door, if you pull the handle up real slow, you dont really hear anything. When I open a back door and I pull up the handle real slow, it sounds like something is getting stretched, or grinding. I'll try taking off the panel sometime within the next... year.

I have the same problem.... sometimes they will open but it feels like you are going to pull the inside handel off to open them....

i had the same problem on the driver side passenger door. it was the black pull door handle the spring lock broke. bought a new one off ebay for 7 bucks. i have a 94' so i dont know where you might find one for your year.

Both of my rear doors are the same way. Just like just about everyone else here, I havn't had time to tear into it to find the cause. This does seem unsafe, and maybe it is something Ford should have recalled, if so many of us have the same safety problems.

Hmm , so I'm not the only one?
Both my rear doors have the same problem. Happened months apart.
I wonder if that FORD guy is reading this post?
Hint, hint (coughing with hand over mouth) safety issue.

i had the same problem with my back doors only it wasnt the spring it was the pullrod locks. its a plastic part that holds the pull rod to lock. it was 2 dollars at the dealer. you might try that.
that could also be what the grinding is. the rod could be slipping but not catching. it took me about a minute and a half to fix once I found the part.

Im new to the forum so Hello!

I had the same problem with the rear driver side door. Turned out to be the internal portion of the black plastic handle. There is a "tab" molded into the plastic that was broken off (appeared by force). I replaced the handle (about 30min and $15 @ dealer) and all was well for about 2 weeks when it failed again. I did some thinking and have concluded that the problem is caused by rear passengers that try to open the door prior to the door locks unlocking the door (ie I pull into a parking spot and before I even get the car in park co-workers are jumping out to head for lunch). I dont carry passengers much anymore and have not had the problem.....

Hope this info helps!
