That's the stock cam. Uncle James calls it an "RV Cam". :p

A cam swap usually costs around $1k, but I'm gonna keep it under $300-$350.

I got the cam brand new for $80. Less than half what it costs from summit.

Oops.. I just picked up a NEW set of FMS 1.6 roller rockers (yes, in anodized blue :D ) for $133. Summit lists them for $250.

So lets recap. :D

Cam - list $166 - mine $80 saved $86
Rockers - list $250 - mine $135 saved $115

This thing is going to go in in a couple weekends. I can feel it.

I dont know how you did those prices, but if you can keep going I would like a ARB locker for a 31 spline 8.8 for under $200, thanks!

Why not! Over the weekend my wing window broke (rock on highway, weird) quoted $108 for new glass, 1 trip to the yard and $17.83 later I had a new wing window, painted and silicolned, installed.

then today I FINALLY found a 91-92 Explorer kick down cable in the junk yard that was NOT CUT!!! Been looking for about a year, my BII kick down was also salvaged and 1/2 broken, new from Ford is $95, I got this gem for $5.

Then this weekend I am getting a 89 BII hatch in PERFECT shape withthe lift up rear glass for $50 if I pull it, and some Mocha colored seat belts from a 2 door Ex for el cheapo....I have been looking for a hatch in this shape for years, and the seatbelts, well they are usually not salvage-able.

So if you can get me an ARB for under $200, I would appriciate it!! :) Also wouldnt mind a OHV 4.10 grind cam for under $50!

hahaha nice...keep it up.

Here they are. Just gotta find some springs and I should be good to go!

definitely keep us posted.

And check out www.4.0performance.com DOug has some good deals on 4.0 stuff. He knows Sven, and that's how he got interested in the 4.0 engine. I'm looking at doing a cam next.
Take pictures!
Karl

Karl,
I can't seem to find any camshafts long enough on that site. Everything seems to be a cylinder too short!

:p

Just one cylinder??? Since when did you start driving a Volvo??

Damn you Tex. My camshaft is the length of 4 cylinders. His is the length of three cylinders. 4 minus 3 is one. :p

What are the springs gonna run ya? This is going to be GORGEOUS if it a $300 project!!:D

Well full price for the springs I want is like $90. But I'm lookin for some $50 or so. Even if I had to pay full price, that would put me just over $300 for parts. Then I just have to get some gaskets here and there and some beer.

Whatever you do.....

Then I just have to get some gaskets here and there and some beer.

Section525 - DON'T put beer into your engine. I know you're thinking about it, but let me tell you. Beer has not helped ANY of the engines I have put it into. Not even the second or third times. And especially not the light stuff.
Now, I did put some Guiness into a diesel once........

Karl
I'm not a real mechanic, I just play one on TV.

so whats the deal with the bottom end? you still gonna stroke it? an Ecam with 1.6's on a 347 would make a badass tractor motor. wouldnt be that great in a race but the off-idle torque would be killer. :)

yeah i seem to remember section saying he was going to use the X to plow fields and stuff.

sorry Jason, i have a bad habit of using regional dialect on this site. in my area-

tractor motor= an engine that makes very strong off-idle torque and has a killer mid-range. upper rpm HP is somewhat limited.

since he's running 33's and obviously has a wheelin' rig, i think this would be a killer combo.

edit- and if you use CoorsLight to install that motor, ill disown you. ;)

Dont forget about a new chain.

The cam is going in my current motor. I don't really expect the 331 to be done until the end of the year or so.. depending on how well things come together. I'm just doing this as practice. :D

NO COORS LIGHT WILL BE GOING IN THE MOTOR.

About the chain. I only have less than 8k on this motor. Do you really need to worry about it being stretched already?
