- 2002 mercury mountaineer
hello all. I am new here but have been lurking around these forums for a while. I have an issue that hopefully someone can help with. My 4.6 mountaineer sounds like it has a rod knock. Changed and filter oil and it was clean. So figured it may be in bell housing. Read on here about flexplate and converter problems so I pulled the trans. Flexplate looked good. I actually installed the transmission again without the converter in and started it and no more knock! So I bought a new converter and installed it. Fired it up for the first time and still no knock. I celebrated and was relieved and after about a couple minutes the knock started to come back slowly. Now I am at a loss what to do here. Did I get a bad reman converter? Could something else make that noise? I'll post up a video in the morning.
