2011 Ford Explorer Seats Recall 11V063000

NHTSA: Action Number: N/A Service Bulletin Number: 11V063000

Report Date:
Feb 02, 2011
Component:
Seats
Potential Units Affected:
1658
Manufacturer:
Ford Motor Company

Summary: Ford is recalling certain model year 2011 explorer vehicles manufactured from july 15, 2010, through december 13, 2010, equipped with second row 60% seats with manual recliner mechanisms that may have components that are out of dimensional specification. These seats fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 207, "seating systems. "

Consequence: In the event of a crash, the seat back may not provide the required strength, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners and dealers will repair the seats free of charge. The safety recall began on february 15, 2011. Owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332.

Notes: Ford's recall campaign number is 11c15. Owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Vince, if I'm not mistaken, this issue brought the entire production line to a halt for a period of time while the problem was being corrected. Those vehicles that had come off the line and were sitting in the plant's lot awaiting delivery, were apparently also delayed and their status was changed to 'returned to factory' or something like that.
I think that I read somewhere that actual production for the public didn't begin until November 2010.

Thanks Peter. I wasn't sure if it had been posted or commented on, seeing as how old it is :)
