2019 Explorer Sport thermostat change

Question to those who have changed their thermostats. Did you drain any anti-freeze before the swap, or does much come out if you just open without draining?

Nobody? I just wondered if not much comes out if I don't drain it, that would be the way to go. I just don't want to make a huge mess in my engine compartment.

I don't know what you consider a mess but I'd estimate about a gallon to gallon and a half will come gushing out.

Even if you drain the system some coolant will still be behind the t-stat.
