- 2002 Ford Explorer 4.6l
My 2002 4.6l explorer is making a really bad rattling noise. When it first started I thought it was the cat converter so I didn't worry to much about it. When I went to change the oil it didn't register on the stick. I changed the oil and the noise went mostly away. Now the noise came back as loud as ever. When I check the oil it seems to be disappearing slowly. No noticeable leaks, no smoke. The noise is very bad and seems to be worse when Im on the gas. If I lighten up on the pedal it doesn't seem as bad but doesn't go away either. I had the front timing chain guides replaced a few months ago when a similar rattle occurred. I have 138,000 miles. New rebuilt tranny. Any Ideas?
