Can I swap 98 4R55E valve body to 96?

Trying to fix my 96 ford explorer 4.0L transmission issue. It has 196K on it, and has trouble going into OD, having intermittent slipping when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Got a 98 4R55e transmission for parts, can I swap the valve body from the 98 4R55E into the 96 transmission? I know the 95-96 has a different EPC solenoid.

I think you can with the correct EPC, just be sure the holes in the two plates are the same.

If they are different you can just use your old plate with the new valve body.

Thanks James, I tried the valve body swap, I did use the EPC from the 98 (the green EPC from the original valve body had an electrical connector damaged in removal). Had the same symptoms with the new valve body, so proceeding with transmission rebuild kit. I will look for a green EPC to put in after the rebuild.
