I'm 97 SUV owner
SUVs: SociallyUnconscionableVehicles
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My guess is that, except for a small minority, SUV owners fall into one or more of the following categories:
A. Own a gun
B. Own a large dog
C. Smoke
D. Are bullies
E. Own a "recreational" power boat, snowmobile, etc.
In other words, the owning of an SUV is just "part of the package". By their nature they don't exhibit much compassion for anything which is not "me" or "mine". Their very existence, outside their own home, on most days, in most places, causes an imposition on other people around them. But they fail to see it, and don't give a damn that it does anyway. Unfortunately, for some, it is their goal to be obnoxious. They take great pride in making people uncomfortable, making them move out of the way, whatever.
Everyone else must pay the price.
If the world was made up solely of these people, I suppose it may have already been destroyed. If the world were made up solely of tree-huggers and compassionate people, I suppose it would be here for much longer, but probably without people (survival of the fittest would have seen to our demise long ago).
So our world, with people in it, has a balance which has lasted this long and won't be upset by a few stickers or a few hospitalized tree huggers.
The world, aside from people, is suffering. The damage is escalating and SUVs are a part of it. Some care, some don't. SUVs just make it very obvious, who doesn't care.

Are you so enraged by the fact that people actually like these vehicles, or any others with low gas mileage, that you are arrogant enough to think that you know the personalities of these hundreds of thousands of people?
"By their nature they don't exhibit much compassion for anything which is not "me" or "mine". Their very existence, outside their own home, on most days, in most places, causes an imposition on other people"
How pathetic a statement by you! I would love to know which demographic you feel you belong in. I wonder if there is a website devoted to making assumptions about your personality, opinions, likes and dislikes as well.

You are absolutely right. These generalizations may have been true 10 years ago when the only people who drove SUVs were gun-toting rednecks who actually did need them (note to rednecks: pick-up trucks have a hell of a lot more space for equipment), but now every person too ignorant to comprehend their impact or too selfish to care is driving them. The only generalization one can make is that these people don't care about anyone but themselves. And you can't argue with that. You may not give a @#%$ but some of us do. I'm not some tree-hugging hippie, but at least I have a @#%$ conscience.

"The only generalization one can make is that these people don't care about anyone but themselves. And you can't argue with that." Well let me give it a shot...
Let me ask you some honest questions... do you use only recycled products, how do heat and cool your home, what is the exterior finish on your house, do you have asphalt on your driveway (on your roof), do you cut your grass, what do you like to eat, and how do you cook it, do you have a pet, what do you do for a living, how does the company you work for respond to the environment...
My point is, that in every day life there are thousands of conscious decisions we make about how we want to live, and unless you are living in a cave, walking everywhere, not wearing any man made products, and eating only natural fruits and vegetables, you are contributing to the deterioration of our environment. Again, do not be so arrogant to think that you know how we SUV drivers live our lives. All you know is we drive vehicles that do not get 30 miles to the gallon. You don't know why.

do you use only recycled products - Its very possible to do so...
how do heat and cool your home - Natural gas is... NATURAL! We've got PLENTY of it buddy.
what is the exterior finish on your house - brick, adobe, wood paneling, its all environmental so I don't see you're argument here...
do you have asphalt on your driveway (on your roof)
Do you think asphalt is a pollutant? The answer is no, most driveways are concrete smart guy. . . most roofs are wood...
do you cut your grass - Electric mowers are good, so are analog non-motored mowers (with spinning blades.)
what do you like to eat - We can eat organic products, vegetables, you name it and its environmental.
and how do you cook it, do you have a pet, what do you do for a living, how does the company you work for respond to the environment...
do you have to cook all food? Pets aren't an environment hazzard so theres no argument here, i'm not a logger or an oil merchant so I don't think theres any problem here, I think you've got a pretty stupid argument buddy.

All of your responses are what you COULD do. Everybody already knows that. The question were, what DO you do?
Did you replace the trees that were destroyed to make your house by planting new ones in your back yard?
By the way, ...
how do heat and cool your home - Natural gas is... NATURAL! We've got PLENTY of it buddy.
...oil is natural too! I'm sure people made the same ignorant comment in the early 20th century about oil "we've got plenty"
Do you think asphalt is a pollutant? Yes, Its a petroleum by-product, how do you think it's made? Were do you think it goes when the roads need to be resurfaced?
You CAN eat organic foods and you CAN use electric lawn mowers and you CAN ride a bike to work, do you?
"most driveways are concrete smart guy. . . most roofs are wood"
Actually most driveways are asphalt from central United States north due to the freeze thaw cycles and cost. Most concrete drive ways are in the south west. And most roofs are definitely NOT wood. Most are asphalt shingles.
If you are going respond please try not to be condescending. People won't take you seriously if your facts are wrong and you come off like an angry school girl.
