1998 Ford Explorer Eddie bauer
New transmission (1 year old)
Had front breaks replaced on wednesday (3 days ago)

Tonight when backing out of a parking spot with my wheels turned all the way to the right I heard a clunk, then it felt like the tires were rubbing or binding and was difficult to move in reverse Keep in mind the truck still moved, just felt restricted. Pulled forward fine then backed out straight and no clunk noise. Pulled back into the parking spot and tried the same turning back out and no noise or binding.

I'm baffled.

4wd or 2wd? 4.0L or 5.0L engine?

If 4wd & 4.0L, it sounds like maybe the 4wd was engaged and binding in a sharp turn on pavement. If not, I don't have a clue.

4.0/4wd

It was set to "auto 4wd"

check the cv joints in the front,, they can only bind when the wheels are turning, and more than likely it is an outer joint,
when the truck is going straight they are in line, but when turning they are at angles, and than they can bind ,
