Hi all,
So somehow over the past weekend someone threw somethign at my windshield while parked in my driveway and caused a nasty bruise on the windshield. The good news is that its just a bruise and not a full on break. Additional good is that i guess it was strong enough to withstand the impact which only caused the fairly deep bruise.

Anyway i was thinking about this and wondering why didnt the alarm go off. It should have for such an impact.

Anyone performed a test on their alarm? Nope i am not throwing another rock to make sure :D.

This brings me to the Iphone module which will give me alerts. I have a Limited with factory alarm - do i only need to get the DL3Z-19A390-B part?

Thanks all

I don't think it is that type of alarm that would be set off by what you experienced. I think it works only works on 'unauthorized' entry through the doors/liftgate.
From your Owner's Guide;

ANTI-THEFT ALARM (IF EQUIPPED)
The system will warn you of unauthorized entry to your vehicle.
The turn signal lamps will flash and sound the horn up to a total of
10 times when:
• any door, the hood or the luggage compartment is opened without
using the keypad, the remote control or the intelligent access
transmitter (if equipped)
• the ignition is turned on with an invalid key.

To my knowlwedge the factory perimeter alarm only goes off when a door, trunk, or hood is opened. There is no shock or impact sensor.

Here is a description from another post:
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=376054

When looking at the remote access system, it does mention an OPTIONAL security feature that provides shock and impact detector.

Details found here: http://accessories.ford.com/aerial-asy-10667.html

Looks like you need vehicle security package 19A361 for the optional shock/impact for $197. http://accessories.ford.com/electronic-module-10670.html
That is in addition to the remote access module for $385. And on top of that the remote access feature also requires a monthly access fee for the cellular connection.

It would be cool to be able to start my car from inside the airport or know when the alarm was activated, but not for $585 plus monthly monitoring...

The stock alarm does not detect impacts. I have the aftermarket module that works with the phone ap and that does have a shock sensor. It works exactly as advertised and I recommend it. Starts or stops from anywhere and sends me a text if the alarm is triggered. Any of those things take less than 10 seconds at the most so far.

T-1000 is my pricing above fairly accurate or were you able to find a better deal on the parts required? Also, how much is the monthly monitoring?

There is a post here that describes pricing & install at a dealership,
beware the dealership may not have a clue and you will need to know the basic steps & items required, and be ready to show the dealership a print out.

I think the post has all the parts required and a link to the Ford parts/install article, ? and describes the issues they faced when trying to activate the monitoring.
The issues were all due to the dealership not knowing anything about it.
Likely that is better now.

Also, if you are going to do it, go to an online Ford vendor like autonation to order the parts.

The module listed in the link above that retails for $385 is only $283.

And the $197 piece is $145.

$150 savings off the bat..

This dealer is an online vendor at the diesel forum I'm a member of. All parts and accessories are 10% over cost.

Some more info here. The install link is a YT video but is for consumers, not the actual install or activation of the SIM.

From what i understand its $50 a year ($4 a month). IMO it's not such a bad deal. Thoughts?

If I had faith in the dealer doing the work I would do it, and then ask my insurance co for any additional discount possible in the alarm/anti-theft portion.
This is way more functional than the car sec system alone.

However I would take car of my phone more, encrypt or at least PIN protect it, and have a way to wipe it remotely.
