Hey guys, the old mans got a bit of trouble with the Explorer, when he goes to brake when its idling in traffic, or to put it in gear the engine starts to missfire and cut out. Taken the vacuum pipe off and when brakes pressed without it connected all is fine. So im assuming it could be down to a faulty sensor or servo? Swapped the MAF over and that hasnt made a difference. Any ideas? Cheers

Hmm...I once had this problem and it was a bad brake booster...it was basically a vacuum leak causing a rough idle. I guess it held enough vacuum idling or even driving but applying brake pressure caused the booster to leak enough vacuum causing a bad idle. Just a thought.

Oh, it was on a '93 Jeep Wrangler 2.5L

...Have you checked for codes? When was the last tune up?

Yeah...listen to Tbars too. He's given me tons of good advice and I probably owe him $$ by now.

Codes are pointing towards the engine being lean in banks 1 and 2

...We need the exact codes to help...

While we are waiting, here is something to look at...

A) Not the o2 sensors

1) Probably Vacuum leak
2) Clean the MAF
3) EGR tube leak
4) Plugs and wires

OR 5) Intake manifold gaskets..

Ill get the codes for you soon as, the intake gaskets are being replaced soon but im not to sure its them.. ill get them codes soon
