I have a 2003 Ford Explorer that does a loud noise and has trouble shifting from Park to Reverse, meaning it is not as smooth as it was before. The noise sounds like it may be coming from the transmission? Anyone know what is causing this?

Thanks everyone :)

If its a 4x4 it could be the transfer case, it's known for noises like that.

You could remove the transmission pan and if there is debris then you know its the transmission and something has failed inside.

Thank you for your response! Its not a 4x4 could it be the same cause for a non 4x4?

I'm having the same problems with mine
