Hi from New Zealand-towing

Hi

I own a 2002 V8 Explorer limited, silver with 20" alloys.

I wish to do heavy towing with this Explorer, but I know nothing about what I have. What does the LTD mean? Tow package?

I do know it has D4 (3.73) axle and a factory 2500kg (approx 5500lb) braked tow hitch. I have ordered a 3500kg (approx 7700lb) tow hitch with electric brake controler.

Does my LTD all ready have the larger trans cooler?

My car transporter and very expensive payload comes to approx 6600lb.

Is she going to cope?
Your thoughts?

Cheers

Welcom!
I just mentioned in another thread don’t forget to add rolling resistance, wind resistance, safer to add an extra 1000lbs or more to your weight, that might put you over even on flat land.
Current tow package models have about 6500-7000lbs capacity.
As to LTD that only the trim package,
the towing package get you from a 3500lb limit to 6500lb limit taller gears
It has a trans cooler already in between the A/C and Rad.

Would it cope, IMHO, once or twice maybe but I wouldn’t do it on a regular basis.
A F250 no problem, a F150, Expy would be an good to ok fit.
Hope this helps.
