Has anyone ever looked into installing an OEM Homelink into an Explorer that it didn't come in? I wonder if the module is all contained in the switch and if it is a diret plug into the 12V supply in the overhead console. Anyone know these things? I have an OEM moonroof, if that matters...

There are several write-ups on this. Yes the switch contains everything you need and it just needs power. I do not believe it is tied in to the overhead since the wires are by the driver's side windshield post but I could be wrong on that.

or you can just buy a drivers side visor with the home link on it.

Or get the BT mate app if you have a smartphone. It comes with a modified bluetooth headset that you hook up to your garage door opener unit. Then you can just use your phone to open the garage door. Doesn't seem likely to be hacked because you physically need to put the BT headset device into a program mode to pair it with a phone.
