Been reading a lot of different posts on KKM intakes lately, and thought I'd try to collect a little statistical information. Several claim to see performance or MPG gains, and others just claim lighter wallets and at best a cool sound. What did your KKM do for you? Engine type? Model? Stock airbox and filter type (square or conical?)

I'm interested to see the results. Thanks for participating!!

Mine is conical 92 4.0 at least 2 more miles too the gallon and alot better throttle responce:)

i have a cone filter setup as well
not the kkm, mine is home made

anyways i get on average 17 mpg city in my 92. Thats damn good for a truck thats going to be 11 years old next month huh?

Made my own too, mine is coned, bought it from autozone for like 20 bucks, the 3" pipe or 4" don't remember for like 5 bucks, then started welding, I got about 1-2 mpg increase, better throttle response. And it makes a really annoying whisteling sound when in park, or at a light, cause all you can here is the intake sucking in mucho amounts of air. Small price to pay for the performance. It really isn't that annoying, I actually laugh when I hear it.

I guess I didn't explain myself fully. What I meant by filter type was your original stock filter. For example, the 91-94s were all square, I believe, but some of later models have square and some have conical stock filters.

Thanks for particiating, guys! I plan to compile this info in a while and post my findings.

I have the 4.0 in my 95 explorer, and mine was conical.

96 4.0 OHV, originally with small cone filter.

Have KN FIPK Gen I, basically exactly the same as the KKM. Noticed a good increase in SOTP power and throttle response, mpg stayed about the same. The air intake was my first power mod way back in '98.

I bought the KKM this summer, after 6 tanks Im seeing a 3 mile per gallon average increase.

I have a 91 and there was a noticeable power increase, and about 1 MPG better.

I had a square filter, but now the KKM. I have a whole lot better throttle response, and what the others have said.

did the intake affect the idle in any of ur cars?

No idle change here, did notice a little power but mostly the milage incrase, I was quite amazed and happy at the same time.

I have a K&N FIPK and it's great. I didn't notice any improvements on gas milage, just a few extra ponies and great throttle response and sound. These kits get better as you "break them in." Mine is alot better after 1k miles or so.

mine idles a little hard w/ a K&N in it. i dunno why. as for MPG, dunno b/c i added stuff to the exterior when i did the filter so my MPG pretty much SUCK!

i just got the kkm a couple of weeks ago....and put on in that time about 1000 miles or so...after the second tank or so i noticed better gas mileage and from the beginning better responce...and it worked even better ( at least i think so) after i put in a heat shield

Okay,

I couldn't resist. I just ordered a KKM... I hope it's worth it. I will measure the Rear Wheel HP before and After and let you guys know if it made a difference or not.

I think we need some hard data to determine if this inexpensive mod is beneficial or not. The MPG increase is easy enough to measure, and many have reported 1-3 MPG increase; however, the increase in power is more subjective and seat of the pants..

How am I going to measure the Rear Wheel HP of my new 2002 Explorer? I have the GTech Pro accelerometer ($139).. Had it ever since I had my '96 Camaro Z28. While it's not 100% accurate, its certainly should be accurate enough to measure any performance improvement the KKM would add.

I'll let you guys know the results in a week or two.. In the meantime, if anyone has a GTech Pro meter, maybe you can post your before/after results for some of your mods...

Thanks

Gururise

My '94 had the square box. Put in the KKM, better throttle response, good sound, about the same milage but I'm driving it a little harder now too...

I know I'm not allowed to comment on things like this.. but Ima give alittle input anway :p

I have a flow50 dual in/out muffler, 5.0L 4R70W 3.73 LSD rear, stock MAF, stock tube, stock everything else.. heh

the only change I noticed between both ym exhaust and my kkm were changes in sound. none in performance. the kkm mkes the exhaust sound deep and throaty, and has a refreshing (IMO anyway) sound from the front when the truck is cold. overall, its worth the price just for the sake of having a cleanable air filter and perhaps alittle bit better air efficiencty in the system.

go for it :)
