I've been a long time reader of this forum and have actually found solutions to my 2005 Explorers problems in the past. However I recently could not find this new issue I am dealing with so I needed to join (long overdue) to post this question to see if anyone else is dealing with this.

Recently my transmission has started to shift oddly while shifting between 3rd and 4th.The odd shifting is sometimes like a hesitation then lunges forward while other time there is no hesitation but just a harder shift then normal. When I shift the car manually the transmission shift smoothly. I am not sure whats going on. Also the car started to make a whining noise when I accelerate about the same time as the transmission issues. Not sure if this is related or not. Car is about to hit 100k. Any ideas?

Just an update on this post. Transmission ended up going out and after I had it replaced the whistle / whinning noise that increased when I accelerated disappeared. Pretty costly fix.
