Hi all. My 2000 4.0l Explorer rarely goes into reverse. I usually have to shift back and forth between drive and reverse until it finally engages, sometimes with a thump. And if backing up I give it a little extra gas it makes a slight rattling sound. I have done the TSB update 2 or 3 years ago. And that fixed that problem and has been good up until now.I thought if the rev band was broken it wouldn't work at all. The u joints and shift linkage seem fine. The fluid is full and red. Guess I'll drop the pan and look for anything obvious unless anyone's got any ideas. Thanks for any help.

I forgot to mention. It does seem to have some engine braking when forcing a downshift but seems to be slow to do it.

it still wouldn't hurt to put a pressure tester on it. Somewhere on here there is a post highlighting the REV modulator valve getting stuck. It's possible that it is loosing pressure.
