Service Engine Soon Light On - Help!

Hi All!

This is my first post, so I hope to make some new friends. The Service Engine Soon light is on in my dash and I have a 2002 XLT Explorer with only 40K miles. What could it be? My fuel is fresh and oil is topped up. If emissions-related, what usually goes wrong this early on?

Without the code, there is no way of knowing the problem.

Welcome to this forum! Sometimes it could be related to the gas cap not being tight enough while the engine is running. It could easily happen at the gas station while refueling with the engine on, or not shutting the engine off before the attendant opened the gas cap. Either way, have the codes read to avoid any guess work.

Go to autozone and they will check it for free for you...and in some cases and offer you a solution for a simple sensor or what not
