shifter sticks

some times when i try to shift out of park(the only time it happens) it sticks until i release the brake pedal, play with the shifter a little, then depress the brake again, and then it shifts. any suggestions?

maybe the linkage needs lubricating or adjustment.... it may not see itself being in a certain position you think it is in.....
