Transmission grinding noise

I downshifted going alittle to fast in to second in my 98 explorer sport auto. now the vehicle makes this grinding noise when coasting or going downhill. the noise goes away when i give it gas, the trans shifts fine just makes the noise. I tore the trans apart and did not find anything broken/scored/worn. please help, thanks in advance

Welcome to this forum! I assume that you have a manual transmission? Do you have 4WD?

its auto and I'm not sure if 4wd works or not

Rebuild it while it's apart. Replace the torque converter, flush the cooler lines, and don't forget to rebuild the valve body too. We don't have a thread on rebuilding a 5R55E. Maybe you could make one?

I'm trying to diagnoise a noise.. I'm gonna put the trans back together today and see if anyting looks out of place

It might be a good time to rebuild the transfer case while it's already out.
