Transmission Swap -- Which Models?

Thanks for looking in -- I've got an 03 Ex 4.0L 2WD that needs trans repair so thinking of putting in used transmission. I've heard some year models are not inter-changeable but looking on ebay lots of listings show 01-05 models can interchange. Thanks -- some of the info was covered up by an advertisement but I didn't see any inter-change info? Will 01-05 models interchange as so many ebay listing suggest?

The 2001 has a 5R55E which is not swappable with the 5R55W unless you do modifications. I don't think that you would want to put this in anyway since it's a lower model. The later models have the 5R55S which is a closer match, but will still need modifications to be compatible. Look for a 2002-2003 5R55W.

Thanks -- I thought those listing were incorrect. Are the modifications you mentioned complex?...or just not worth the time to chance it? Thanks again.

The gear ratios are different in the transmission, and the computers are wired to work with the solenoids & sensors, so you are better off getting the same transmission.
