Well I have finally been forced into a steel bumper. I was trying to keep the 'original' look of the explorer for a long time with a factory bumper but last time out I witnessed the benifits of having a strong steel bumper up front. #SMORR also claimed two of my tires so when I got home I went crazy on some bead locks and the look is a bust any way. I hope you guys like the new look I will have to say its growing on me.
BEFORE:
Started with a giant piece of 1/4" and started cutting from there. I made all the pieces and worked from the top down. Generally it is easier for you to start from the middle and work your way around but this design was a little tricky for that.
Most of the bumper spot welded together - the white bar is to keep the bumper straight while welding
Then begins the welding and grinding marathon! Put together and mounted you can finally see the shape I was going for.
After a couple thirty packs a lot of grinding and a quick coat of Rhino liner it looks pretty good! The winch will still be hidden behind the bumper!
